What is Milia?
Milia are small, harmless, pearl-like cysts filled with keratin that form under the surface of the skin. Often mistaken for whiteheads, they are firm to the touch and cannot be squeezed out.
What causes Milia?
Milia occur when keratin gets trapped beneath the skin surface and begins to form microscopic cysts containing the keratin protein. Most of the time they appear on the skin around the cheeks, nose and around the eyes. Milia can sometimes occur on skin that has undergone some form of trauma and irritation, or, when the skin is exfoliated too much and isn’t designed to exfoliate that area, dead skin cells tend to amass.
They are not a result of poor skin hygiene as they tend to occur even on skin that is well taken care of.

Milia Treatment
Shortwave diathermy (SWD) is an effective method for removing milia by using a high-frequency electrical current to break down the hardened keratin trapped within the skin. The electrical energy creates heat that dries up and breaks down the keratinized tissue.
The SWD technique uses a very fine needle, allowing for precise treatment of individual milia without damaging the surrounding skin. This is especially useful for milia near sensitive areas like the eyes. The contents then naturally disperse within the body and healing usually takes a few days. A small crust or scab may form on the treated area. Multi milia can be removed in one session with small ones usually only needing a single session. Larger or clustered milia may require a second treatment
