Thread Vein Treatments for a More Even Complexion
What is Thread Vein or Spider Vein?
Thread veins, also known telangiectasias, are small, dilated blood vessels that become visible just under the surface of the skin. They appear as fine red, blue, or purple lines in patterns resembling thin threads. They can sometimes all converge together giving the appearance of a spider's web - these are sometimes called spider naevi.
While they can appear anywhere on the body, they are most common on the face and legs.
Thread Vein Treatment
Shortwave diathermy (SWD) is an effective treatment for removing thread veins. It is most effective for small, visible thread veins, especially on the face, neck, and décolletage. The process, uses a fine, heated probe to gently tap over the vessels. This produced heat and therefore seals the tiny broken capillaries. The body then naturally reabsorbs the treated vessel over several weeks.
While the treated area may be slightly red or puffy for a few hours after the procedure, there is generally no need for significant downtime.
Depending on the number and size of the thread veins, multiple treatment sessions may be required to achieve the desired result. Sessions are typically spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Because the probe is extremely fine and the treatment is very precise, the risk of scarring is low with minimal damage to surrounding skin
